Founded by several American Mensa members, who have the firm belief that an open mind and the application of intelligence, imagination and logic can lead to solutions to many of the problems facing America now.
The first step to a solution is to recognize the problem. We don't think it hyperbole to point out that Americans seem to have an astounding blindness to not only our own domestic problems, but to our role in global ones as well

NOTE: This list was first created in 2002. That it remains virtually the same in 2011 merely highlights how the Federal Government is failing us. Following is just a partial list of pressing problems facing America: 1. A looming potential financial meltdown due to the combination of massive annual federal budget deficits and even more massive and growing annual current account deficits. [This crisis erupted in 2008, is ongoing, and though its onset was caused by systematic banking and Wallstreet malfeasance. the problem has grown and its negative effects will be felt for years to come]. 2. Election fraud. 3. Campaign financing and the buying of elections and those elected. 4. Global pollution leading to contamination of the food chain and consequent birth defects and disease. 5. Arctic warming, climate change and rising ocean levels. 6. The murder of our oceans with overfishing and pollution. 7. A continued and unsustainable influx of illegal immigrants and the consequent downward push on wages and quality of life. 8. Number 7 above combined with the outsourcing of manufacturing and white collar jobs and the inevitable long term decline in living standards.(Note: this decline is only temporarily being masked by having household incomes only marginally declining due to both husband and wife working, by an influx of cheap imports, and by a huge increase in household credit card debt. 8. The looming bankrupcy of the Government Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. 9. The looming shortfalls in our Social Security Fund and the disasterous effects "privatization" will have on it. 10. The looming bankrupcy of Medicare and Medicaid. 11. An unaffordable and increasingly unreliable medical care system. 12. Unaffordable medicine. 13. An inequitable and increasingly non-progressive tax system. 14. Continued media consolidation and control by a few Corporations. 15. A foreign policy that is isolating the United States, alienating allies, creating enemies, actually serving to encourage nuclear proliferation, and creating the impression abroad (and among the thoughtful here in America) the the United States is now the "evil empire" |
